Wedding Dress Accessories
Posted on: September 1, 2011
So, hopefully you've found your perfect wedding dress… so now you need to start thinking about accessories!
You can be as minimal or as extravagant as you like, but try to let your wedding dress lead the way when choosing accessories – for example, a simple sheath dress can look fantastic on its own, or with bold statement pieces, whereas a more complicated dress design needs more subtle accessories or you will end up looking overly ‘busy'.
Think about your favourite attributes and how you want to show them off, or how you'd like to hide aspects of your body you're not so happy with. Carefully chosen accessories can detract from areas you dislike, and emphasise those you like.
Take into consideration your entire wedding style and colour theme and work them into your accessories. You might also want to think about your something old, new, borrowed and blue, too!
Here's our list of accessories you may want to look for when completing your wedding outfit:
Shoes! Flats, high heels, or somewhere in between. Go for comfort as well as style.
Wedding rings. Kind of an essential! Will you have it match your engagement ring, your hubby's ring or go for something completely different? Make sure it fits perfectly before the big day to avoid an embarrassing struggle to squeeze it on at the altar!
Jewellery. Bracelets, earrings, necklaces and even rings (although many brides like to keep their hands ‘naked' apart from their wedding band on their wedding day) – the choice is yours and the choice is pretty endless. Reflect the style of your dress and the colour scheme of your wedding, or if you're lucky, you might even wear a family heirloom or a special gift from your husband-to-be.
Tiara. These can be as subtle or as bold as you like, and can be work with or without a veil.
Veil. Totally optional, and often can be detachable to change your look at a moment's notice. There are loads of different types to suit all styles of wedding gown.
Lingerie. Go for the best you can afford for comfort and maximum sexiness!
Jacket/Bolero/Shawl/Shrug. You might want something to keep you warm if you're getting married out of summer (or just generally in the UK!), and some dresses look absolutely complete with the addition of an extra layer, especially when made in lace.
Headpieces/Hair Accessories. How flamboyant do you feel? Feathers, jewels, silver, gold, flowers and lace – all can add to your overall look and add delicacy (or craziness) to your hairdo.
Whatever you choose, follow these simple guidelines:
1) Does it fit with your style of wedding dress?
2) Does it fit with your style of wedding?
3) Does it fit with your colour scheme?
4) Does it fit with your personality?
5) Can you afford it?!
